e support diversity in all its aspects; race, culture, income and special needs. This is an ongoing commitment woven into our program on a daily basis. We actively select children, staff, materials and concepts that support diversity. It is important to open young minds to the humanity in us all. At First Years we teach through direct experience that although everyone is different we share a commonality that transcends our uniqueness.
In support of our commitment to diversity we have established two entities. The first is the Greater Venice Preschool Scholarship Trust, a non profit trust that assists in providing affordable, quality childcare. The second is our child development resource team. It consists of specialists in social thinking, speech and language, child development and occupational therapy. First Years offers this resource as a proactive, affordable way for the school and parents to have extra, well trained eyes available for informal information gathering when it seems a child is struggling and might benefit from an assist The members of the team are available for conferencing with the parents of children who are non traditional learners and will offer a list of referrals.
